Description

It seems like the summer of dreams come true for Hollywood princess Kaitlin Burke: the media loves her (again), super-cute and funny Austin Meyers is finally her boyfriend, and she's starring in a movie by her all-time favorite director Hutch Adams. What could be sweeter? But life on set is not as perfect as the makeup and costumes. And with an old love and a scheming new publicist on the scene, it's about to get a whole lot messier.

Summary: "Good Chick-Lit"

I enjoy Jen Calonita's writing style and this book was a great example of it which is highly influenced by young hollywood. I did think the character of Austin could've been less perfect. I realize that in most Chick-Lits when the main character takes a risk that she has to rebuild from a romantic entanglement is normal. It would've been more interesting if Austin had a history of being a heartbraker and had silently dated Skye or a starlet Katelyn knew in his past. I also would've been more into the book if Drew tryed to make Katelyn swoon over him with more effort. Liz and Nadine's fighting should've been focused on less because if Katelyn had Drew trying to persaude her to fall for him and her nervousness over Austin cheating on her Liz and Nadine should've been a stable part in her life. Overall i like it of course (I gave it a 5 out of 5) but would like a little more drama considering Katelyn works in hollywood!

Summary: "Brought to you by http://kaydencebookblog.wordpress.com/"

This is the second book of the Secrets of My Hollywood Life series by Jen Calonita. The reader catches up with Kaitlin right before she begins her movie shoot. She is dating Austin and attempting to learn her lines while waiting for filming to begin. However, nothing ever seems to run smoothly in Kaitlin's life. She goes to an emergency meeting and finds out that there is a new studio publicist and co-star for her beloved Hutch Adams project. Can you guess who that co-star is? Of course, it's Sky. So, now Kaitlin has to deal with her ex-boyfriend (the one that broke her heart and used her to get to the top), Sky, and the crazy new publicist. The stress mounts up once again, and Kaitlin has to find a way to calm herself down and go through the movie. You know what else is bad, Hutch is horrible on set. He yells at everyone. Kaitlin's dream job is just not what she had hoped for. Can she make it through all of this drama? Can her relationship with Austin survive her working with her ex-boyfriend (who seems a little too close when the cameras around)? Also, how is Kaitlin going to deal with all of the bad press that comes with the look of dating two boys at once?

I love these books, so I can't give a review without first putting that bias out there. I read these out-of-order, so at the moment I am catching up. On location gives the reader an idea of what a real movie set ends up being like. It's not as glamorous as we might hope. However, I'm more interested in the soap opera like stories that seem to suck me in. The drama that goes between her and Sky and the undermining things that go into the press are just like reading the tabloids in the grocery store. They are addicting even though you know it is fake.

Austin is just the cutest boy ever and he is perfect for our sweet, naive Kaitlin. He reminds me of a couple of my students. They want to give advice even when they have no idea what they are talking about. They also have a tendency to believe that teenagers should be in complete control of their own lives (famous, or not). Perhaps that is just a teenage trait in general, but it is endearing to me. I can't wait to continue this series and I hope that you will join me in reading them.

5/5 stars, of course!

Summary: "Excellent YA series!"

The second in the "Secrets of my Hollywood Life" series by Jen Calonita is all that I expected it to be. Excellent light lit for young adults.

Kaitlin Burke has landed a killer role in what will be next summers biggest blockbuster. She managed to snag the guy of her dreams, believe it or not a high school boy. Kaitlin met Austin while she was pretending to be Rachel, and gain some anonymity away from the paparazzi. Once the jig was up she wasn't sure Austin would be into the real Kaitlin Burke.

All those troubles seem miles away now. That is until she finds out her heartbreaking ex-boyfriend/slimeball Drew and conniving, backstabbing costar Sky have both been cast to star in the as of yet untitled film project alongside her.

Suddenly her life is in a tailspin and she is being hammered with bad publicity. She has no idea how to dig herself out of this nasty hole she is in. She worries she might lose what she cares about most in her life, Austin.

I like this series, its fluffy and fun to read. I am looking forward to Secrets of my Hollywood Life - Family Affairs up next!

Summary: "I feel like a Hollywood Insider after this book!"

This book truly made me feel like a Hollywood insider. Kaitlin is the type of actress I would want to be. A normal fun girl who also happens to live a glamorous life. I loved all her tips and secrets of the Hollywood world. It brings everything into a whole new light now about the industry. While there are things are truly glamorous and wonderful, there's also a lot of hard work, fakery and deceit to get ahead. It's sad that she doesn't have the normal relationship with her parents as they keep pushing to keep her stardom afloat with little thought for her own feelings. I'm glad that she has her friends and Nadine to keep her sane. Her rivalry with Skye was fun to read as while they bickered and plotted against each other, it wasn't so extreme that you hated Skye. The behind the scenes details of what goes on in movie making is fascinating as well. It makes me wonder if everything we see on TV and magazines is really true about celebrities or just the work of overwork publicists with hyper-imaginations.

I love the fact that Kaitlin is a Star Wars geek! As a big fan myself, it's always nice to see that a girl can be a fan and not be dorky. Plus she's a real fan and actually knows her movies, characters and Star Wars speak. She's so lucky also to have found a guy who's a fan as well. I love her and Austin's screen names! Another highlight of the book is that there is no annoying teen slang. This is a major problem I have found in other YA books. It also seems like the author is either trying to invent what they think is teen language or seems to have found the one group in the entire country that speaks that way. It always takes away from the story because you have to stop and decipher what in the world they are talking about. The characters in this book may be from Southern California, be rich kids and celebrities but they talk just like everyone else which makes the reading flow smoothly.

I think the greatest appeal of this book is that Kaitlin acts like a normal teen who just happens to also be a famous celebrity. She usually doesn't use her celebrity status to get her things and longs for a normal life. There is no sex, no offensive language, and no drinking. Really Kaitlin is one of the best characters I've ever read in a YA book. Lindsay Lohan needs to take lessons from her! Honestly this is probably my favorite general YA series to read. It trumps Gossip Girl by a landslide! This book is really a fun read. If you are into celebrities and love YA book, this is perfect for you. HIGHLY recommended.

Summary: "Courtesy of Teens Read Too"

Kaitlin Burke seems to have it all. She has the most amazing (and non-famous) boyfriend, Austin Meyers, the media is in love with her, and she's starring in a movie by her all-time favorite director. Life couldn't get any better.

But it could, of course, get worse, especially with her enemy on the scene.

ON LOCATION, the second book in the SECRETS OF MY HOLLYWOOD LIFE series, follows Kaitlin as she continues her adventures, both in her acting career and in her romance. While it's not quite as good as it's prequel, it's sure to keep the reader entertained and wanting more, long after the end comes.

If you loved the first book in the series, you'll be sure to enjoy this, and I recommend the whole series to any young teen or tween.
